The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Jackie Robinson” is an exclusive variation of Ken Griffey Jr.’s signature silhouette which honors Jackie Robinson Day (April 15), a traditional event which occurs annually on April 15 in Major League Baseball, commemorating the day Jackie Robinson made his major league debut and breaking baseball’s color barrier.

While the aforementioned day has already passed, the celebratory pair dons a timeless black and white combination followed by Robinson’s famous quote, “There’s not an American in this country free until every one of us is free,” is embossed on the ankle strap. Other design elements consist of Griffey Jr.’s distinct #24 replaced with Robinson’s #42 on both the ankle and insoles to round out its theme.

Retailing for $170, look for the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Jackie Robinson” at select Nike stockists and online, including the KicksOnFire Shop on April 24. Always keep it locked to KicksOnFire for the latest in sneaker news, release dates and where to purchase your favorite kicks.
