The Drew League opened its doors to NBA players this past weekend and if you could describe the atmosphere at the King-Drew Magnet High School in a word, it would have to be electric.  Whether it was current players like James Harden or newest Laker Nick Young to former pros like Gilbert Arenas, Marcus Williams and the immortal Keith Closs to celebrities like The Game to the weekend warriors who just love to play ball, they all brought their “A” game to The Drew and did not disappoint.  Because of the relaxed atmosphere of the The Drew (free admission and many local faces play on the various squads), it was very easy to talk to any of the players before or after the games and respectfully ask for pictures and autographs.  Fans at The Drew are not your typical NBA fans that make you shake your head and wonder what kind of sense of entitlement they think they have just because they bought a ticket; this was a gathering of family in the truest sense.

Money Gang tips off against the Kings of LA Image: Axis Photography

As has been the case in the past, the main attraction of Sunday’s action at The Drew was The Game’s Money Gang.  As it got closer to their showdown with the Kings of LA, you could sense that the crowd was getting more and more hyped for the arrival of various players from The Drew’s marquee team.  The anticipation was so high that people were actually being turned down because the gym at King-Drew was so packed.  Harden’s arrival only emphasized that point as all eyes were on the NBA All-Star, although some of them were probably staring at his pair of the newly Air Jordan 4 “Toro Bravo.”

While you might think summer league basketball is full of highlight reel dunks and lax gameplay, the competition was fierce on the court and on the feet of the players.  Now that Nike has really gotten involved with The Drew League, you could really the influence of the swoosh whether it be on the uniforms or the signage across the gym.  They really take this #summerisserious stuff to heart.

Check out our recap of the kicks that were on display during Sunday’s games, including those worn by Harden, Young, Arenas, DeMar DeRozan and much more. Teams denoted in parenthesis.

The Reebok Shaqnosis just made its triumphant foray into the retro game last week. And no sooner than the release was over we find new information on other upcoming colorways for the hypnotic kicks. Yesterday we got a chance to see the Reebok Shaqnosis “Year Of The Snake” and now we get a chance to scope out a totally metallic silver colorway. Some have taken to calling it the “Shaqnosis Steel” in accordance with Shaq’s 1997 action superhero movie. In the movie he dons a metallic suit much like the upper in the kicks. Unlike other Shaqnosis colorways, the upper is totally one solid metallic silver color, while the sole and accents are black. The kicks are set to drop September the 6th. Let us know what you think about the kicks and Reebok’s direction in the comments below. And keep it locked as more photos and information becomes available.
